Making international payments

You can make international transfers on NAB Connect, Internet Banking or the NAB app.

For more information about how to make an international payment, see our step-by-step guides.

IBAN and BIC/SWIFT codes

IBAN stands for International Bank Account Number. IBANs are used across all European Union banks. Some other countries, such as Turkey, also use IBANs.

An IBAN starts with a two-letter country code and contains between 15 and 34 letters and numbers. Australian accounts do not have IBANs. Instead, we use a BSB (bank, state, branch identifier) and an account number.

A SWIFT Code is an international bank code that identifies a bank. It’s also known as a Bank Identifier Code (BIC).

SWIFT codes consist of 8 to 11 characters.

NAB’s SWIFT code is NATAAU3303M. You’ll need to give this code to anyone sending you money from overseas.

Sending in foreign currency or Australian Dollars

Depending on how much, when and to where you’re sending money, exchange rates could change on arrival if you send in Australian Dollars.

Receiving money from overseas

Receiving money from overseas is an easy two-step process. Give the payment sender your details, and wait for the sender to complete the transfer.

You can find most of these details using your account statements or online banking. Visit our guide on how to receive money from overseas to find out more, including correspondent bank details by major currencies and payment timeframes.
