Keep your machine switched on and charging overnight

Your machine receives regular overnight software updates to maintain and improve the quality of the EFTPOS service. Keep your machine turned on and charging overnight so any updates happen before you start trading for the day.

What happens if I miss an overnight update?

If an overnight update is missed, the machine will start updating the next time it’s switched on and charging. This may result in a delay before you can start taking payments.

How do I know if my machine is charging?

To confirm your machine is charging, gently place it on the dock and listen for a beep to indicate charging has begun. If you don’t hear the beep, ensure the battery is secured with the clip pushed all the way into the socket.

Note: If you have automatic settlement enabled, it’s important that you keep your machine charging during settlement. If it’s not powered on and charging, the settlement will fail and may result in a delay of funds arriving in your account.

Dos and don’ts for cleaning your machine

Your machine works best when it’s kept clean and handled with care.

  • Do use a damp cloth to wipe away dust, fingerprints and marks.
  • Do regularly clean the charging pins on the charging base with a soft cloth to remove any dust. This is important, as dust build up may stop it from charging properly.
  • Do take care to not bend the charging pins when cleaning or when replacing the unit on the charger.
  • Don't spray cleaners directly onto the keypad or terminal display.
  • Don't attempt to clean the smart card reader. If you do, you may void your warranty. If you'd like to service your smart card reader, call us on 1300 369 852.

Keep your machine charging

Your machine works best when it’s kept on the charging dock. Also, its best to have the charging dock is connected to a surge-protected power board. This protects your machine from being damaged by a power surge, which could result in disruption to your EFTPOS service.

Set up your machine with its own Wi-Fi connection

The speed of your machine can be affected by the speed of your Wi-Fi connection. If your business uses a lot of Internet or allows customers to use Wi-Fi for free, it can slow down your terminal performance. Ideally, its best to set up your machine on a separate Wi-Fi connection.

Most modern routers let you connect your devices using either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz connections. If possible, dedicate one of these connections solely to your machine. To find out more, we recommend you contact your internet provider.

Keep your machine up to date

Your machine should automatically receive regular software updates to ensure it functions at its best. This generally happens overnight.

How to check your machine is updating

Each month your machine produces a docket with ‘TMS INIT SUCCESS’ printed at the bottom, which means it’s receiving software updates. If you don’t see this message or think you’re not receiving updates, call Terminal Support on 1300 369 852.

Find the best position for your machine

The speed and performance of your machine can be affected by its proximity to the router, the structure of your building, other electronic devices and even weather events.

  • If your terminal is connected to the internet via Wi-Fi or Ethernet cable, if possible, move it closer to your router.
  • If your terminal connects to the internet using GPRS if possible, move it closer to an outside area.

Note, if you move your terminal to a different location the internet connection may drop out on the way. To reconnect, we recommend you power reset your terminal and log on again.
