Sydney, November 08, 2005:- In a major boost to the Qantas Socceroos World Cup qualifying campaign, Football Federation Australia today announced National Australia Bank as a new major sponsor of the team.
The three year sponsorship deal between the two iconic Australian brands exemplifies NAB's ongoing commitment to investing in Australian sport, whilst also ensuring the Football Federation meets its objectives of providing the Qantas Socceroos with the best resources possible.
With only a week left until the Qantas Socceroos discover whether they'll be playing in their first FIFA World Cup in 32 years, this sponsorship deal is testament to the country's continued support and belief in the national team. It is also a major boost to the players as they prepare to meet their nemesis Uruguay in the do-or-die qualifiers.
Mr. Frank Lowy, Chairman, Football Federation Australia commented, "As a respected and trusted brand that has long represented the Australian people, National Australia Bank is a natural fit for the Qantas Socceroos and we look forward to a prosperous and successful partnership.
"A deal of this magnitude once again re-enforces the faith Australia has in both the Qantas Socceroos at such a crucial hour, as well as the future of football in this country."
Ahmed Fahour, Executive Director and CEO Australia, National Australia Bank said, "Partnering with Football Federation Australia and the Qantas Socceroos presents a natural synergy for our business - and with the Socceroos attempting to qualify for the 2006 World Cup the timing is perfect.
"Football is without question the World Game with more than two billion people tuning in worldwide to watch the last World Cup Final, businesses do not receive a bigger brand platform than that. This sponsorship deal demonstrates the NAB's commitment to the game, the Qantas Socceroos and the communities in which we do business."
