NAB announces assistance package for bushfire relief

The National Australia Bank (NAB) today announced a package of special relief measures for customers who have been affected by the Victorian bushfires.

Ms Sharyn Gordon, NAB State General Manager for Victoria and Tasmania said: "The NAB is ready to provide practical assistance to people directly affected by bushfire. We have customers who will be impacted and we want them to be aware that we would like to help wherever possible."

The package of relief measures the NAB will consider for customers facing financial hardship as a direct result of bushfire include:

  • a suspension of home loan repayments;
  • waiving fees and costs for early withdrawal of term deposits;
  • waiving home loan and personal loan application fees;
  • providing existing customers access to low 'honeymoon' home loan rates and waiving the application fee to charge to another loan at expiry;
  • waiving establishment fees for restructuring business loans;
  • credit card relief where appropriate; and
  • support to restructure existing banking facilities

"We would like customers affected by this issue to contact the NAB's staff to discuss their circumstances. We will be keen to assist wherever possible to help customers get their personal and business finances under control again as quickly as possible," said Ms Gordon.
