In addition actuarial graduates participate in the main Graduate Program with multiple learning and development opportunities, networking with other graduates from various disciplines, access to a mentor, social functions and much more.
This is an exciting time in our business as we have recently reorganised ourselves to help customers fulfil their aspirations. With over 20 actuaries in Finance Australia and another 30 across other business areas our roles are extremely varied and open a wide range of possible options as your career develops.
Here is what one of our recent graduates had to say....
Jack Chui: "Working at the National within MLC as an actuarial graduate gave me a fantastic opportunity to work with actuaries after completing my Actuarial degree from Macquarie at the end of 2003. Responsibility comes early on with many opportunities to be involved with decision-making. I have worked in the life insurance area which has proven to be both intriguing and challenging.
The graduate program has been great allowing me to participate in workshops developing skills such as presentation, teamwork and project management. Study assistance is generous for students working to complete their actuarial exams and there is support and help from qualified actuaries.
Working at the National is most enjoyable, with plenty of socials with the other graduates and teams. The people that work at the National are always open and friendly which creates a lively atmosphere at work. The opportunities here are extensive with a range of possible areas for me to consider for the future."
What you can expect
You can expect to be based in either Planning and Actuarial Services or the Product and Solutions team which are our main actuarial areas. Actuarial graduates usually remain in a role for the two-year graduate program and participate in the activities associated with the structured Graduate Program with graduates from other disciplines. This usually includes workgroups covering presenting, team building and many social events as well as access to a senior mentor within the organisation. You should gain hands-on experience in a range of actuarial work and have access to an excellent study support package.
