NAB sponsors Macquarie University - enhances community life at Ryde campus

The National Australia Bank (NAB) today announced a three-year sponsorship with Macquarie University's Department of Sport and Recreation.

Set to commence in January 2006, NAB will contribute to supporting sport and recreation for over 28,000 students.

"NAB has enjoyed a long term relationship with the Macquarie University that spans over three decades and this initiative paves the way for an even greater contribution to campus life," said Deidre Anderson, CEO of Macquarie University Sport and Recreation.  The innovative partnership has the potential to deliver over $240,000 of funding injected into sport and recreation over the next three years.

"With the introduction of Voluntary Student Unionism on the horizon, this type of support will be crucial for the sustainability of sport services and facilities," she said.

George Frazis, Executive General Manager for NAB's Business and Private Banking, said: "This is one of a number of major sporting partnerships undertaken by the NAB whose other partners include Socceroos, the Australian Football League (AFL) and the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.

With the partnership set to take effect from 1 January 2006, Macquarie University Sport and Recreation has already made plans for how the funding will be dispersed across its many service areas including the soon the be constructed Sports and Aquatic Centre and the Sports Fields Master Plan.
