Following a detailed assessment of the needs of its customers and employees, the National Australia Bank (NAB) today announced additional measures to assist its customers and staff affected by tropical cyclone Larry.
This builds on initiatives announced earlier this week by NAB.and provides customers and employees with the specific assistance they have asked for.
"The scale of this disaster is having a profound impact on people across Far North Queensland (FNQ)," said Ahmed Fahour, CEO Australia.
"Over the past 36 hours we have worked closely with our customers and employees to understand how best we can help."
In addition to the emergency assistance package for customers announced on Monday, Mr Fahour said NAB would:
" Send 25 extra bankers to FNQ to assist local bankers to ensure we are able to quickly respond to customer requests as well as to support our own staff in their local communities,
" Extend the interest-free period on the NAB Personal Project Loan to six months (from the normal 3 months), for impacted customers who need additional funds to help them rebuild,
" Grant NAB staff in FNQ five days paid leave to assist them in the aftermath of the cyclone,
" Establish a Customer Hotline (1300 885 265) to manage inquiries from customers affected by the disaster,
" Support the Premier's Cyclone Larry appeal by matching donations made at NAB branches throughout Australia on a dollar-for-dollar basis up to $250,000,
" Actively use its branch network to raise money for this appeal
" Also provide a total of $250,000 to the NAB's Cyclone Larry Relief Fund which was established on Monday to help in the impacted areas.
It is estimated this package of measures will contribute over $1 million to those in need.
NAB has already announced it will suspend home loan repayments, provide credit card relief, waive costs for early withdrawal of term deposits, and waive fees for new personal loans and restructuring business loans.
"We urge any of our customers affected by this disaster to contact us to discuss their circumstances as soon as possible," said Julian Pearce, Chairman of the NAB's Q
