NAB warns customers against fraudulent 'rumour emails'

National Australia Bank today issued a warning about the risk of hoax emails designed to fraudulently obtain consumers' personal information.

NAB's Head of Technology Risk and Security Management, Gary Blair, said: "The public is better-educated now about the dangers of hoax emails purporting to be from their bank.

"But they should also be wary of emails from unknown senders containing false rumours with invitations to click on a link for more information.  The links may contain viruses that enable fraudsters to track keystrokes."

"Any NAB customer who receives such an email is advised to delete it without clicking on the embedded link.  If they have clicked on the link, NAB encourages them to call NAB's Internet Banking Support team on 1300 651 656."

NAB recommends that internet banking users update their anti-virus, firewall and anti-spyware protection and register for NAB's SMS security system.
