About the 2007 NAB Volunteer Awards

About the Awards
Now in its tenth year, the National Australia Bank (NAB) Volunteer Awards have become one of Australia's most successful recognition programs for best practice in volunteering.  Through the Awards, NAB seeks to pay tribute to the outstanding volunteer work conducted over the past 12 months. Since inception in 1997, 500 groups have won Awards and more than $2.6 million has been awarded. In 2007 a further $215,000 will be awarded to winning organisations.

Awards Winners
State and national winners will be recognised in two categories - small and large organisations. 
The state winners in each category will receive $10,000 each and be eligible for the national Awards. 
12 state runners-up will receive $5,000 each and be invited to attend the state presentation.  
The national winners will receive a total of $20,000 as well as the honour of being named the national Award winner for their category.

Awards Eligibility
To be eligible for an Award, a group must be able to demonstrate best practice in volunteering, be not-for-profit, have operated within the Australian community during the past 12 months, and provide a reference letter from a community leader. Groups must also operate with a majority of volunteers.

Judging Criteria
Judging is conducted independently by Volunteering Australia and expert panels representing each category.
The judging criteria is as follows:
Best practice in volunteering.
Benefits of the organisation and its activities to its target group.
Benefits of the organisation and its activities to the local community generally. 
Degree of innovation demonstrated in volunteering.
Degree of innovation demonstrated in the project or activities.

Volunteering Australia's Award for Excellence in Corporate Volunteering
This year, in conjunction with the NAB Volunteer Awards, Volunteering Australia launches the Award for Excellence in Corporate Volunteering to recognise best practice in companies or government agencies with employee volunteering programs.
The award is an initiative of Volunteering Australia with a $5000 prize donated by NAB. While the Award is given to the employer organisation, the prize is awarded to the not for profit organisation of their choice.
