NAB recognised again as 'Employer of Choice for Women'
The Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency (EOWA) has named NAB as a 2008 Employer of Choice for Women. This is the second time that NAB has been recognised with this award.

Over the past year, we have implemented a range of initiatives to improve workplace conditions for women including:

  • 12 weeks paid parental leave for primary carers;
  • Opening two childcare centres in Sydney and North Sydney;
  • Running a pilot in-house mentoring program for pre-management women.

Improving diversity
We continue to develop flexible working policies, diversity awareness and capability training. In 2007, this saw the implementation of a new program of coaching and mentoring pre-management women.

Extra benefits for employees
NAB employees can access a wide range of benefits including:

  • Discounted financial products and services including transaction accounts, credit cards, home and personal loans.
  • Salary packaging for non cash benefits such as motor vehicles or superannuation.
  • NAB Staff Club membership offering exclusive savings, activities and privileges.
  • Health Assistance Program providing free counselling support and discounted private health insurance.
  • Discounted lifestyle products and services through the Work Life NAB program.

Improving flexibility
As part of NAB's commitment to flexible working, appropriate policies, tools and programs have been developed including the opportunity to:

  • Work part time including job share and job split.
  • Take a career break, leave without pay or purchase additional annual leave for family/health reasons, study, travel etc.
  • Have flexible start and finish times or work from home.

Providing a career path for our employees
We aim to create an environment at NAB that will support flexibility and choice in an employee's career. We recognise that people have different career aspirations so if their looking to become a leader of people, be a specialist in their field or continue in a role that already fulfils their aspirations, we aim to provide our employees with the opportunities to enable this to happen.

NAB's awarded Graduate Program
Over the last two years, NAB's National Graduate Team has worked to deliver a fully integrated approach to selecting and developing the future talent of our organisation.

NAB's Graduate Program was also recognised at the 2007 Australian Association of Graduate Employers Industry Awards. NAB was voted:

By Graduates around Australia
Winner: Best Graduate Recruitment Promotional Campaign
No. 2: Best Graduate Opportunities
No. 6: Aspirational Employer of Choice for Graduates

By Industry
Winner: Best Integrated Marketing Campaign
Winner: Best Graduate Website

Providing employees with a safe workplace
In 2006, NAB launched a new health and wellbeing program - starsafety - designed to ensure a healthy and safe working environment for all NAB employees. Recently, NAB's starsafety system was awarded a high commendation in the category of best health and safety management system at the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission Safety Awards 2007. In 2007, NAB's Lost-Time Injury Frequency Rate also reduced by 47% from 3.54 to 1.8* (*LTIFR is based on lost time claims).

Supporting union engagement
NAB employees are entitled to join and be represented by a union and not suffer any prejudice as a result. In 2006, NAB finalised an Enterprise Agreement (2006-2009) with the Financial Services Union.

Supporting emergency employee relief
NAB has a number of assistance programs available to our people to ensure their overall work and life is balanced. One of these programs is The Dibbs and Massie Foundation. This foundation provides financial assistance in circumstances of financial hardship to current and retired employees, widows, widowers or dependant children of deceased employees.

Assisting indigenous employment
Last year, NAB began work on an Indigenous School-Based Traineeship Program for students entering their final years of high school. The Traineeship enables students entering Year 11 one day a week work at NAB, half a day with a training provider such as TAFE and the rest of the time at school. Students can also work full time over the school holidays. The traineeship is completed at the same time as the student's Higher School Certificate (around 24 months) and students gain a nationally accredited qualification.

We also continue our STEP Career Pathways Program in partnership with Mandala Career Advisers. This program aims to maximise the employment opportunities of Indigenous people with NAB.
