Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some frequently asked questions about Overseas Travel Insurance. There are also a number of typical scenarios to help you understand how this product might work for you.
I have activated cover under the policy by paying for 50% or more of my prepaid travel costs using my NAB Gold Card. If I then cancel my NAB Gold Card and take out a different NAB Gold Card, do I still have cover under the policy?
Yes, provided you continue to be a NAB Gold Cardholder as defined in the policy.

I am issued with a NAB Gold Card after I have booked and paid in full for my holiday using my standard NAB credit card. Do I have cover under the policy?
No. Cover has not been activated because you have not paid for 50% or more of your prepaid travel costs using your NAB Gold Card.

I have activated cover under the policy by paying for 50% or more of my prepaid travel using my NAB Gold Card. I then cancel my NAB Gold Card and transfer my banking to another institution. Do I still have cover under the policy?
No. As you are no longer a current NAB Gold cardholder, you are not eligible for cover and the policy will not respond. Your cover remains valid only until the time you cancelled your NAB Gold Card.

I want to know what my policy number is.

I want a policy certificate issued to me to confirm coverage.

In the event of a claim, what do you base the value of the airline tickets on if it was obtained by redeeming points in a loyalty program?
Typically the value of the airline tickets is based on the cost of a standard ticket at the time of travel for the same class of travel with the same airline.

I have won my flights in a competition. Am I covered?
Provided 50% or more of the prepaid travel costs are put on the NAB Gold Card, the cover will activate. If you have won (for example) an overseas holiday involving return business class flights, it seems unlikely that any additional costs paid on the card will be sufficient to trigger the cover. In this case you may need to take out alternative insurance cover. If the actual ticket cost is unknown, the cost of the airline ticket is assessed as the cost of a standard airline ticket at the time of travel for the same class of travel with the same airline.

I have paid for an overseas holiday using my NAB Gold Card. I live in Newcastle, and intend driving to Sydney to catch my international flight, leaving the car at the airport for the return drive two weeks later. Am I fully covered, and does cover extend to the drive to/from Sydney?
You are covered, although not for medical benefits whilst in Australia. The definition of Journey defines this to commence as soon as you leave your place of residence in Australia, and to continue for 90 days or until you get back there, whichever happens first. Because you are driving directly to/from the airport, the drive counts as part of the Journey.

Are items locked in the boot of my car covered while I am overseas?
No. The policy covers accompanied luggage and personal effects only.

My luggage has not been delivered to my destination port of London by the carrier airline. The airline has assured me that my luggage has been located at Singapore airport and loaded on the next flight to London. The luggage will be delivered to my hotel by 9am the following day. I have a formal engagement 2 hours after arriving and my dress suit is in my delayed luggage. Will the policy pay for me to purchase formal attire to be worn to the engagement?
Yes, if luggage has been delayed by more than 12 hours. The purchase would typically be viewed as an emergency requirement under Section 2.2, and the policy would respond up to $300.
