Banking on a Sustainable future
We believe we have an important role to play in the strength and sustainability of the communities in which we work, which is why we're operating in a way that is efficient, customer-focused and ethical and reduces both our direct and indirect environmental impacts.
Already more than 600 employees across the business are involved in our green team community. These employees are taking action to reduce our environmental impact through implementation of education and behaviour change activities.
One of the benefits available, which encourages sustainable travel, is an interest free public transport loan available to employees based in Melbourne and Sydney. We've also installed nearly 800 bike racks are across Australia.
We are also committed to becoming carbon neutral by September 2010. By investing around $12 million over three years, we're on track to achieve this target.

Fairtrade Workplace
Fairtrade helps create sustainable market opportunities for producers who have been economically disadvantaged or marginalised by the conventional trading system. As Australia's largest Fair Trade-accredited workplace, we're making a real difference to the lives of these workers and their communities.
For example we drink 4.5 Million cups of tea and coffee in NAB every year. So by introducing Fairtrade tea and coffee into our kitchens across Australia, we're helping improve the lives of tea workers in Sri Lanka and coffee farmers in Colombia.
