People with disability
Opportunities for people with disability
At NAB we are committed to the employment and support of people with disability - creating an inclusive environment that support people of all abilities. Employing people with disability ensures a diverse workforce and reflects the diversity of our customers and the community in which we operate.
The key objectives of our Disability Action Plan are to remove barriers and maximise the employment prospects of people with a disability. In 1997 we became the first publicly listed company to lodge a Disability Action Plan with the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission (HREOC) under the Disability Discrimination Act. We've also signed an agreement of memorandum with Disability Works Australia (DWA) to increase employment of people with a disability.
Our initiatives for employees with disability include:
- Providing car parking
- Providing reasonable adjustment to ensure people can perform their role successfully
- Flexible Working to give people the choices to easily manage both work and personal life
Grant, Investment Analyst and Paralympian
"Part of MLC's Investment Management team, I help create and maintain investment strategies. I love my job because I am very close to what is happening in the markets and no two days are the same. I also get to work with and meet a lot of intelligent people, including many of the world's best investors. That's what gets me out of bed in the morning.
Away from all that, I'm also a two-time Paralympian - part of the gold medal-winning Australian wheelchair basketball team in the 2008 Beijing Paralympics. My ultimate sporting goal at the moment is to defend our gold medal at the London Paralympics in 2012. After all, it is rare to win gold and even rarer to have a chance at defending it so the team is totally focused on that at the moment. I have to say, MLC has been great. They have been hugely supportive with flexibility around work, financial support, and just a thorough and genuine understanding of what I was out to achieve."
