 Working at NAB

What is the starting salary for a graduate?

Our graduate starting salaries are market matched with our competitors. All employees are paid a base salary, known as a Total Remuneration Package (TRP), and a Short Term Incentive (STI), a percentage of the gross salary, based on performance over 12 months. Salaries are in the range of $50000 to $65000, with incentives varying from 2.5% to 10%. Salaries and incentive payments vary depending on the area of business in which you work.

What training is offered?

Regardless of the business area our graduates work in, we offer core development and networking opportunities as part of our Graduate Development Program. In addition, each business unit program has specific training and development tailored to that area of the business. This training is designed to ensure you are well equipped to succeed in the business unit you work in while providing you with an excellent base to move into other areas of our business further down the track.

How do promotions take place?

Promotion is based on individual merit and the availability of and/or business need for a role at a higher level. We take into account your performance, tertiary qualifications and work experience to date, along with your main areas of interest, the level of motivation you demonstrate and your commitment to self-development. NAB has adopted an integrated approach to learning and development to help you reach your career goals. As an employee, you'll have many opportunities to discuss career plans.

Does NAB offer Vacation Work or Work Experience?

NAB does not run an organisation-wide work experience or vacation work program; however some individual businesses (e.g. Wholesale Banking and Technology) do offer programs such as Vacation Work and Industry Based Learning (IBL) for current students. These roles are advertised via university careers services and our website, generally in July/August each year.

Does NAB offer work experience for secondary school students?

We do not offer work experience to secondary school students.

Can international students apply for Vacation Work or Work Experience?

You must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or an Australian permanent resident to apply for vacation work or work experience.

When can I submit my application?

Applications for the 2011 NAB Graduate Program open 16 February to 28 March 2010. All applications must be submitted during this time – these dates cannot be extended.

How can I submit my application?

Applications must be submitted using the online application form available via the 'Apply Now' links on this website. Applications submitted via e-mail to graduate_careers@nab.com.au will not be considered.

What if I apply and I am unsuccessful? Can I apply for other roles with NAB?

Yes, you can apply for other roles with NAB. You can also apply again next year for the graduate program.

I am studying a post-graduate qualification. How is this perceived?

We encourage applications from people undertaking further study. If you are applying for a graduate role, we’ll look at your undergraduate qualification first, then your post-graduate study. If you have significant work experience as well as other study behind you, you could also consider opportunities advertised on the NAB careers pages.
