General
What is SMS Banking?
NAB SMS Banking uses your mobile phone to conduct certain banking functions by sending a SMS. It allows you to do the following, directly from your mobile phone 24/7:
- Find out your account balance on your eligible accounts.
- Obtain a mini-statement on eligible accounts displaying up to the last five transactions.
- Transfer funds between your eligible accounts.
What accounts can I use with SMS Banking?
Personal transaction accounts

- NAB eBanking (this account is no longer for sale)

Are there any age restrictions to use SMS Banking?
Customer must be 16 years of age or above to activate and use NAB SMS Banking.
What is the difference between SMS Banking and Telephone Banking?
SMS Banking uses a SMS from your mobile phone to access your accounts, requesting information or to transfer money between your accounts. Telephone Banking requires you to dial the Telephone Banking phone number, enter your NAB ID and password so you can do your banking.

How will SMS Banking benefit me?
SMS Banking allows you to keep track of your banking and perform transactions anywhere anytime at the touch of your fingers.
What if my account isn't eligible for SMS Banking?
If you have an older account that is not eligible for use with SMS Banking, you can consider upgrading your account to a new Smart everyday banking account.
You can apply online - it's quick and easy and all you need is your BSB and account number.
Can I register my business account for SMS Banking?
No. SMS Banking is currently only available for eligible personal accounts at this stage.
How much does SMS Banking cost?
SMS Banking is available at no charge. Your normal mobile service provider charges, if any, may apply.
Will SMS Banking allow me to make payments to other people or businesses?
No. At this stage NAB SMS Banking only allows transfers between linked accounts. Payments to accounts that are not linked can be made through Internet Banking.

What’s the difference between SMS Banking and NAB Internet Banking on your mobile?
With SMS Banking, you can use an SMS from your mobile phone to access your accounts, request information, or to transfer money between your accounts. NAB Internet Banking on your mobile lets you access your NAB Internet Banking from any mobile device or transfer funds, pay bills, and access investment information.

How will I be able to register for SMS Banking?
Go to nab.com.au/smsbanking and find out more, or login to Internet Banking > Settings > SMS Banking and register today.
How do I register and administer SMS Banking in Internet Banking?
After you have logged into Internet Banking you can register and manage your NAB SMS Banking options through the 'Settings' sections. It's simple and available 24/7.

How many accounts can I have registered to use the service?
You can have as many accounts as you choose available via NAB SMS Banking as long as they are eligible accounts and are assigned unique nicknames.
How do I change my SMS Banking details and options?
You can update any of your NAB SMS Banking details via Internet Banking or you can call 1300 651 656* and one our SMS Banking support staff will assist you.
What if my account requires two or more signatories?
You will only be able to activate your account for SMS Banking if you can operate the account on your own. If the account needs two or more signatories to transact, you will be unable to activate it for SMS Banking.
Mobile phone requirements
Can SMS Banking be used on all mobile phones and with all mobile service providers?
Yes. NAB SMS Banking can be used with all mobile phone handsets and mobile service providers that allow you to send and receive SMS messages.
Do I need to pay normal SMS usage costs to my mobile phone provider?
Yes. If you pay for SMS messages you will incur this cost from your mobile service provider when sending SMS messages to NAB SMS Banking. You should refer to your mobile provider to get advice about SMS usage costs. Many customers are on 'cap' plans, which will include the cost of SMS messages.
Where can I use SMS Banking?
You can use SMS Banking anywhere in Australia and in many places around the world. Overseas availability is subject to global roaming being enabled and mobile service provider and network availability. NAB SMS Banking is available in countries with the GSM network and can only be registered to Australian mobile phone numbers.
What happens if I change my mobile phone number?
You can update your mobile phone number in Internet Banking under the My Settings > SMS Banking or by calling the NAB Internet & SMS Banking Support Team on 1300 651 656.
Can I use SMS Banking on more than one phone?
No. You can only activate SMS Banking on one mobile phone number. If you change your mobile phone number, you can update your mobile phone number in Internet Banking under the Settings > SMS Banking or by calling the NAB Internet and SMS Banking Support Team on 1300 651 656.
Usage
How do I cancel a funds transfer?
If you’ve initiated a funds transfer and chose not to proceed with it, simply ignore the confirmation SMS sent to you and the funds transfer will not proceed. A funds transfer will be automatically cancelled 30 minutes after we have sent you the confirmation SMS if a response isn’t received.
What happens if I switch my account to one that is not eligible for SMS Banking?
If you switch your account to one that is not eligible, you'll cease to be able to access that account via SMS Banking.
What should I do if my phone is lost or stolen?
If your phone is lost or stolen you should contact NAB Internet and SMS Banking Support Team on 1300 651 656 and also report it to your mobile service provider. They will then apply a block to ensure access is stopped.
You can also log in to Internet Banking under the Settings > SMS Banking option or call the NAB Internet and SMS Banking Support Team on 1300 651 656 and disable SMS Banking access on your accounts. You can then register your new mobile phone number and reactivate your SMS Banking service.
Can someone take money out of my account via SMS Banking?
No. SMS banking only allows funds transfers between your linked eligible accounts and can only be accessed from your mobile phone.
How much can I transfer between accounts?
SMS Banking doesn't impose any restrictions on the amount which you can transfer between eligible transaction, savings and investment accounts, other than those imposed by your account terms and conditions. Funds transfers from a credit card are ineligible.
How long does a funds transfer between linked accounts take?
NAB will send a reply to your request within 10 seconds of receiving your initial SMS. We will process your funds transfer within 10 seconds, upon receipt of your confirmation SMS. However there may be delays with your mobile service provider.
Can I set up a transfer for a future date?
No. Funds transfers are 'real time' and as such will take effect immediately after NAB receives your confirmation SMS. To set up a future dated payment, you can use NAB Internet Banking.
Can I transfer funds from my credit card to another linked account?
No. Funds transfers from a credit card are ineligible.
Can I pay bills via SMS Banking?
No. At this stage SMS Banking is limited to obtaining account balances, mini-statements and completing funds transfers. You can still pay bills via NAB Internet Banking.
How long does it take to obtain an account balance or mini-statement?
NAB will send a reply to your request within 10 seconds of receiving your initial SMS. However there may be delays with your mobile service provider.
What number do I send my SMS request to?
Requests for account balance, mini-statements and funds transfers should all be sent to 0447 NAB SMS (0447 622 767).
How do I view my transactions history?
You can access a history of up to 560 days of transactions within NAB Internet Banking by opening 'Transaction history' from the 'account info.' menu. Or if you are already in the 'Account summary' screen you can open an account’s history by selecting the 'Transaction history' quick link under the account.
Note: To access more than 100 days of transactions, you need to be registered for NAB Smart Statements
How do I pay a bill or credit card?
You can pay a bill in NAB Internet Banking by opening 'New bill payment' from the 'bill payment' menu. Or if you're already in the 'Account summary' screen you can select the 'Pay bill' quick link directly below the account you want to pay the bill from.
