How to apply for a NAB Personal Loan
Get a personal loan
Over 18 with good credit?
You can apply for a personal loan individually or jointly with one other person. To apply you need to:
- be at least 18 years old
- have a regular income
- be a permanent Australian resident
- be able to make your repayments (which you can check with our loan calculator)
- want to borrow more than $5,000. If you're looking for a smaller amount a NAB credit card might suit you.
Things to know before you apply
- It shouldn't take you more than 15 minutes to apply online.
- Approval for a personal loan depends on our credit assessment criteria.
- Make sure you know the costs of your loan. See our current fees and charges and interest rates.
- A $150 application fee will apply.
- It's important to understand the Personal Loan Agreement General Terms (PDF, 392KB) that apply to your loan.
- A personal loan is a debt that you'll have to repay. Before you apply check your repayments with our loan calculator.
Information you'll need
When you apply online we'll ask for:
- your email address and other contact details (including previous home addresses from the last three years)
- what you earn (including, for example, wages and/or salary)
- your employer's name, address and phone number (including previous employers from the last three years)
- details of what you owe (eg. on credit cards, store cards, or other loans)
- details of your living expenses (eg. on insurance, rent, and general living expenses)
- details of assets you own (eg. your house or car, and investments like shares)
- your driver's licence number (if you have one).
After you apply
As soon as we've received your application we'll email you. This email includes your application reference number.
We'll take one or two working days to assess your application for conditional approval. Usually we let you know the result by email.
If we conditionally approve your application, we might need to check some of the details you've given us, or get more information. We'll let you know if we need anything extra from you.
After we've finished verifying your application, we'll prepare your loan contract. This normally takes three or four working days. Usually you'll have to visit a NAB branch to review and sign your contract.
If you're new to NAB we'll need to see 100 points of identification as well. This is a legal requirement.
Once your contract is signed we'll make your funds available to you. You'll get a bank cheque and/or funds in your NAB transaction account.

Important information
A personal loan offers flexibility and control. But it’s important to remember, like any debt, you'll have to repay it. If you're unsure as to whether you will be able to manage repayments for a new personal loan, then you should not consider taking up a personal loan from NAB at this point in time.
