Four easy steps to switching your bank account
Step 1: Open a NAB smart everyday account
You can open an account in one of three ways, whichever is the most convenient for you:
Step 2: Identify your regular direct debits and direct credits
Once you've opened a NAB smart everyday account you will need to identify the regular payments coming in and out of your current everyday account. To do this you can check your statements or ask your current financial institution for a list of the following:
- Money going out of your account, your regular direct debits and periodical payments eg. phone bills, gym membership etc.
- Money coming into your account, your regular direct credits eg. your salary, share dividends etc.
Step 3: Switch your payments to your new NAB account
Once you have identified your regular direct debits and direct credits you will need to switch these to your new NAB account. To do this you will need to contact each organisation directly to update your details.
If they request something in writing you can use the NAB Switching tool to help you generate letters outlining your new details which you can then print, sign and send
If you would prefer not to use the switching tool, but instead fill out the forms manually, please click here for the letter templates.
Step 4: Finalising your switching
Now that you have switched to NAB, have you:
- Updated any other regular payments you've setup in NAB Internet Banking?
- Checked that all of your payments have been switched? (Including your salary, direct debits, direct credits and share dividends)?
- Closed your old account(s)?
