NAB tiles way to success

Carl Tailor has spent the last 20 years mastering the craft of tiling, but a lack of financial backing restrained him from expanding the business and winning large contract jobs.

However, his recent move from Sydney to Launceston to set up shop under the name Gecko Tiling has seen his business advance in leaps and bounds.

“I knew I would only need a relatively small amount to get things going and a friend told me about National Australia Bank’s not-for-profit Microenterprise Loan. It’s been great for all the essentials and has really pushed me in the right direction,” Carl said.

“I worked with NAB to ensure the loan repayments were realistic and achievable and they helped me put together a solid business plan so I can successfully grow in the Launceston tiling market.

“I will hopefully soon crack the corporate market and I’m looking to the future and aiming to employ an apprentice as well as another fully-qualified tiler,” Carl said.

Just a few months since launching Gecko Tiling in Launceston, Carl has formed strong business relationships and is now well-known in the region’s building community. Jobs are even starting to find him, with calls for his skills pouring in.
