National Buddy Week - Play a role in the prevention of bullying in Australian schools

On 22 February 2010, NAB and The Alannah and Madeline Foundation will launch Australia’s inaugural National Buddy Week.

National Buddy Week is an initiative aiming to highlight the importance of friendships and the need to prevent bullying in Australian schools, workplaces and in cyberspace by providing an opportunity to discuss bullying and celebrate friendships.

The week will comprise a series of activities aimed at raising awareness and funds to support The Alannah and Madeline Foundation in keeping children safe from violence.

Sets of Buddy Bands will be sold for $5.00 in all NAB branches from February 15. The friendship bands are designed to be split; keep one for yourself and give one to a buddy. All funds raised will go to The Alannah and Madeline Foundation’s Better Buddies Framework, a whole school initiative designed to create safe and caring school communities. Funds can also be donated direct to The Foundation via www.amf.org.au

Bullying Seminars have been developed for current and prospective teachers in Melbourne, Sydney and Queensland with key presenters, Dr. Michael Carr-Gregg & Prof. Toni Noble. Dates and registration details will be available shortly.

Additionally, schools around Australia are being encouraged to register for “Buddy Picnics” from 22-28 February. Based on the idea of children having fun with their buddies, schools can register their picnic by emailing betterbuddies@nab.com.au with their:

  • School name
  • School address
  • School contact and details
  • Number of students participating

Participating schools will receive packs containing activities & merchandise.

Stay tuned for further information.
