Community advisers help NAB

23 January 2007

Community representatives are helping NAB identify important issues and giving the bank feedback about how it addresses them, through the new Community Advisory Council.

Since 1998 NAB has operated a forum with community organisations as a means to keep in touch with issues facing the bank in Australia.

In 2006 the community stakeholder forum was formalised and became known as the Community Advisory Council. The council meets quarterly and first met in August and December last year.

The role of the council is to provide input into the community activities and approach of NAB in Australia. The council will bring to the attention of NAB important community issues facing the bank and provide feedback on how NAB is addressing them.

The council will report annually to the public on its activities.

The Community Advisory Council members are:

  • Tim Costello (Chair) - World Vision Australia
  • Ahmed Fahour - NAB Executive Director and CEO, Australia
  • Daniel Gilbert -non-executive NAB director and co-founder of the Australian law firm Gilbert + Tobin
  • Betty Hounslow - Deputy Chief Executive of The Fred Hollows Foundation
  • John Ilhan - Chief Executive Officer and Founder of 'Crazy Johns' Mobile Phone retailer
  • Marilyn Webster - Manager of the Policy and Research Unit at Good Shepherd Youth and Family Service
