Volunteering & Giving
Services provided by Australia’s community organisations are in more demand than ever before, leading to an increased reliance on volunteers and the contribution of voluntary time.
The Productivity Commission estimates that 5.4 million people in Australia volunteer each year. However, two-thirds of community organisations surveyed recently believe that a shortage of volunteers has a large or very large impact on their ability to deliver services.
We need to remove the barriers that prevent people from volunteering.
A major barrier increasingly preventing people from volunteering is lack of time, which is why since 1998 NAB employees have received two days leave per year to volunteer and give something back to the community. Last year this equated to 6,000 employee volunteer days.
Since the program’s inception, NAB has built relationships with over 350 community organisations, to ensure NAB employees are delivering valuable support to community groups, who have a real need for volunteers to provide their services to those that need them.
NAB believes we can provide tangible assistance through volunteering programs which help empower and connect people and allow our communities to realise their potential. NAB wants to lead by example and encourage corporate Australia to provide employees with paid leave to volunteer in the community.
