The National Announces Fire Assistance Package - 4 January 2002

The National has announced today a range of further measures to provide special relief for customers affected by the New South Wales and the ACT bushfires.

General Manager of Personal Financial Services, Ken Hodgson, said: "The National wants to provide practical assistance to victims of these devastating fires."

"We have customers who are affected and we want them to know how we are able to help."

The National's relief package, for customers who have suffered loss of property in the fires, includes:

- a suspension of home loan repayments;
- waiving fees and costs for early withdrawal of term deposits;
- waiving home loan and personal loan application fees;
- providing existing customers access to low "honeymoon" home loan rates (currently 4.49% for 6 months or 4.89% for 12 months) with no application fee to change to another loan at expiry;
- a discounted rate of 6.5% on fixed rate personal loans for the life of loan;
- waiving establishment fees for restructuring business loans;
- credit card relief where appropriate;

Customers of the National should discuss these options with their banker or call the National's Customer Contact Centre on 13 22 65.

Mr Hodgson said the National wants to help everyone it can, whether or not they are customers. "Our branches are collection points for donations to the NSW Bushfire Disaster Relief Fund. We are accepting donations to the fund over the counter at all branches. Our Engadine and Huskisson branches have re-opened, having been temporarily closed due to their proximity to the fires."
