National donates $1million to Bali appeal - 16 October 2002

National today announced a $1million donation to the Australian Red Cross Bali Appeal and made available its network of branches for all Australians to donate money to the Appeal.

The National's Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer, Mr Frank Cicutto, said that in this time of tragedy it was important to pull together to support those Australians who have suffered loss due to the bombings in Bali.

"The Australian Red Cross Bali Appeal has been established with the support of the Commonwealth Government, and the Australian Red Cross.

Australians wanting to make a contribution can donate in a number of different ways.  These include:

  • Cash and cheque donations at any National Australia Bank branch (BSB 083 054, Account Number 54979 9577); and
  • Cheque donations can be posted to Australian Red Cross (GPO Box 9949 in your capital city).

Credit card, Internet banking and website donations on nab.com.au will be available in the near future.  The National will advise details of this shortly.

The Australian Red Cross will administer funds collected from the Australian Red Cross Bali Appeal.  The funds will be used to help alleviate the loss suffered by the victims who have been injured in the blast or who have lost close family and will suffer sustained physical and emotional trauma and economic loss as a consequence of the disaster.

"I urge all Australians to contribute to support those who have been impacted by this act of terror," added Mr Cicutto.
