Approximately 100 employees and former employees of the National will march in the Anzac Day Parade in Brisbane on Thursday 25 April 2002, to honour former staff who gave their lives in World War I. "215 former employees of the National gave their lives in World War I. As time passes many no longer have a relative to represent them in the Anzac Day Parade," said the General Manager for Business Financial Services, Queensland, Mr Julian Pearce. "The decision to represent these former colleagues is an initiative of Brisbane staff and has the full support of the National. A number of employees have worked extremely hard to ensure that as many staff and former staff as possible are able to march to ensure the memory of fallen colleagues lives on. "Several of those involved in the Parade are descendants of those colleagues who fell in World War I. "Those involved in the Parade will carry replicas of two Honour boards located in the National's Brisbane Office at 308 Queen St which list the names of each of the 215 former employees who fell in World War I. "All staff involved feel very proud to be able to march in honour of fallen colleagues and recognise their sacrifice."
