John Eales launches National Visa Card for rugby fans - 07 July 2003

Wallabies' Legendary No. 5 Launches National's 4.9%p.a.Visa Credit Card offer

SYDNEY, 7 July 2003.  Legendary Wallaby No. 5 and Visa Rugby World Cup 2003 Ambassador, John Eales, today helped the National launch a Visa Credit Card designed with rugby fans in mind.

The former Wallaby captain, who led Australia to victory in the last Rugby World Cup, will feature on the new National Visa Credit Card which celebrates Rugby World Cup 2003 in Australia.

Together with a highly competitive six-month introductory interest rate of 4.9%p.a., the National Visa Credit Card will give cardholders the chance to win tickets, travel and accommodation packages to the Rugby World Cup 2003 finals.

The limited edition Rugby World Cup 2003 National Visa Credit Card is available in Visa Classic or Visa Gold and features a signed photograph of John Eales holding aloft the Web Ellis Cup.

In launching the exclusive Rugby World Cup 2003 National Visa Credit Card, General Manager Cards Australia at the National, Ms Fiona Wardlaw, said the card's introductory rate of 4.9% was "a competitive rate for the Australian marketplace that offers cardholders compelling value".

In addition to the highly competitive interest rate and "a very attractive range of features and benefits", Ms Wardlaw said the new card was designed to appeal to the true rugby fan and the Australian sports enthusiast.

"Not only can you savour the moment of Australia's Rugby World Cup 1999 win, but when you use the card you automatically enter a draw to win tickets, travel and accommodation packages to attend the Rugby World Cup 2003 finals", Ms Wardlaw said.

People who take up the card before the end of August will receive 25 entries into the draw to win Rugby World Cup 2003 Finals packages.  And every $50 spent on the card up until 10 October will automatically earn the cardholder an additional entry into the draw.

Mr Gordon Wheaton, Visa's Executive Vice President for Australia and New Zealand, said he was delighted to join with the National in leveraging Visa's sponsorship of the Rugby World Cup 2003 with such an attractive product.

"It is a pleasure to have one of the true greats of the Rugby game and Ambassador for Australian rugby, featured on this National Visa Card.  We believe it is a fitting momento for fans to have him in their wallets".  Mr Wheaton said.

At the launch in Sydney's Wallaby Bar today, Australia's legendary No. 5, John Eales, was presented with a Wallaby jersey emblazoned with the No. 4.9, to reflect the National Visa Card's introductory interest rate.

"It might not be a number that will ever grace a rugby pitch, but I'm told in credit card terms it's highly competitive.  What more can a Wallaby fan ask for?" Mr Eales said.
