12th January, 2005

The National Australia Bank today announced a package of special relief measures for customers who have been affected by the devastating bushfires on the Eyre Peninsula.

National Australia Bank Regional Executive for regional South Australia David Smart said: "The National is ready to provide practical assistance to people directly affected by the bushfires. We have customers who will be impacted and we want them to be aware that we would like to help where possible."

The National’s relief package for customers facing financial hardship as a direct result of the fires:

  • Deferring home loan repayments for an agreed period,
  • Waiving applicable fees and charges for early withdrawal of term deposits,
  • Waiving home loan and personal loan application fees,
  • Providing existing customers access to low ‘honeymoon’ home loan rates,
  • Waiving establishment fees to restructure business loans,
  • Credit card relief where appropriate, and
  • Restructuring existing banking facilities where possible.

"We would like customers affected by this issue to contact the National’s staff to discuss their circumstances. We will be keen to assist wherever possible to help customers get their personal, business or farm finances under control again as quickly as possible," said Mr Smart.
