NAB signs on for Medicare Easyclaim - 11 April 2007

Wednesday, 11 April 2007

National Australia Bank has signed an agreement to support Medicare's new electronic claiming initiative, Medicare Easyclaim.

NAB Executive Director and CEO Australia, Ahmed Fahour, said he was sure the agreement would be beneficial for Medicare, doctors and patients.

"Easyclaim will allow patients to lodge a Medicare claim by swiping their Medicare card and debit card through their doctor's EFTPOS terminal," he said.

"With EFTPOS terminals installed in most doctor's surgeries already this is a smart idea that makes good use of existing, highly secure infrastructure.

"It will make claiming Medicare rebates easier and significantly more convenient, which can only be good news for doctors and patients alike."

Mr Fahour said NAB would now work with Medicare to ensure that all accreditation requirements are met.

"Medicare's accreditation process is in place to make sure financial institutions provide consistent levels of service across the network," he said.

"We will work closely with Medicare and also draw on the experience of our HICAPS subsidiary, Australia's leading ancillary health claims and payment service, as we move through the process."

NAB expects to begin offering the service later in 2007.
