Name: Kate Hopkins
Your role: Manager, Simplification, Business Direct & Small Business
Region: Docklands, Victoria
What’s your story?
I was born in Frankston and now live in Mordialloc (Mordi to the locals).
I am a 100% people person. My favourite part of any job is the customers and the team, from my first casual job in fast food to today, where I help make banking simpler and faster for small businesses.
How have you made a difference?
I had the opportunity to improve transparency and certainty for small business through a complete rewrite, in plain English, of our Business Lending Contracts. My job was to bring the voice of the customer, loud and clear, to the table. Sometimes that meant physically bringing them into the room, other times, being the vocal advocate and challenger in their stead.
Creating this change was a good challenge, but anything worthwhile usually is. It is only the beginning of this work, and I am so excited to be part of the team at NAB that is committed to supporting the engine room of Australia, our small businesses.
What are you passionate about?
NAB has supported my long career and itchy travel feet with overseas roles. I spent the best part of my 20’s living away and travelling around Europe during any down time. Traveling was a great experience that also triggered a strong love and appreciation for Australia. While I will always have itchy feet, travel is now more about unplugging the family and hitting the road for a camping trip into remote areas of natural beauty. I like big skies, conversations on long drives and meeting new and interesting people.
