What is a NAB Visa Gift Card?

NAB Visa Gift Card is a prepaid card on which cash is loaded in advance and given as a gift that can be used to purchase a gift shopping in stores, online or over the phone and anywhere a Visa Gift Card is accepted globally.

All transactions are processed electronically. You cannot access ATMs, or withdraw cash from the card.

Spending is limited to the value placed on the card at the time of purchase.

What is the difference between a NAB Visa Gift Card and a traditional gift voucher / gift card?
NAB Visa Gift Card is different to a store gift card as it can be used anywhere Visa Gift Card is accepted globally. So the gift card can be used for purchases in stores, online or over the phone. Store cards are usually limited to selected stores or shopping centres.

How do I purchase a NAB Visa Gift Card?
You can purchase a NAB Visa Gift Card from any NAB branch. Locate your closest NAB branch here. You can purchase the card using cash, a withdrawal from your NAB account or any Credit Card cash advance (ID required). The card costs $5.95 and includes the gift card and a greeting card.
Who can use the card?
Anyone can use the card:

You don’t have to be a NAB customer.

No customer identification is required for purchase of a Card.

There is no minimum age required to use or purchase the Card.
How much money can I put on the card?
You can put any amount on the card between AUD$25 and AUD$800 per card. The card can only be loaded with value once, it is not re-loadable.

Can I link an account to the NAB Visa Gift Card?
The gift card is not an account and cannot be linked to an account.
Is a PIN issued with a NAB Visa Gift Card?
A PIN is not supplied with the card. When making purchases you will be required to press the 'credit' button on the merchant terminal and sign a receipt.

What do I get when I purchase a NAB Visa Gift Card?
The gift card comes with a greeting card. You can choose from a range of greeting cards for that special occasion. You will also receive a brochure outlining the terms and conditions on how to use the gift card. It is important that you pass this onto the recipient of the card.

When is my card activated? When can I use my card?
The card is activated when you purchase the card so you can give the gift immediately.
Who should sign the signature panel on the gift card?
The person who going to use the card to make purchases should sign the signature panel of the gift card. As they make purchases they will need to sign the store receipt.
Which button should I select at point of sale when buying something - Savings, Cheque or Credit?
You must select the 'Credit' button.
What if the value of the purchase I want to make is greater than the balance on the card?
You will need to know your card balance and pay the difference with cash or other payment method accepted by the merchant. Handy hints:
What if the value of the purchase I want to make is less than the balance on the card?
The exact value of your purchase(s) will be deducted from your card balance. You can continue to use the card until the card balance is zero.

When can a transaction using my NAB Visa Gift Card be declined?
There are several possibilities when the card can be declined:
1. The amount of the purchase exceeds the available balance – check your card balance, and ensure you have alternative forms of payment to pay for the difference. There is a handy ledger on the back of your card which can help you to keep track of your balance. Or you can call 1300 783 536 (within Australia), +61 3 8641 9928 (when overseas)
2. Your card has expired
3. Your card is used at one the restricted Merchants such as gambling outlets – please see the Terms and Conditions
4. A number of merchants including but not limited to companies within Woolworths/Safeway group and Coles group do not accept any Visa or MasterCard gift cards. Therefore you will not be able to use your NAB Visa Gift Card in their stores.

Is there anywhere I cannot use my card?

What Enquiry Services are available?
NAB offers a card balance and transaction history (last 5 transactions) enquiry service via Interactive Voice Response (IVR) for $0.50, Branch or Operator $2.00. Standard call rates apply.

What should I do to ensure the security of my card?

Keep your card in a safe place.

Sign the back of the card when you receive it.

Always read and sign all receipts.

Retain a copy of all receipts.
How can I minimise fees?
Know your card balance at all times by:
- The initial value of your gift card should be written on your greeting card.
- As you make purchases, use the handy ledger on the back of the card to maintain a running balance.
- Retain the greeting card which will note the original card balance.
- Keep a copy of all receipts.
- Use the Enquiry service as required.

Does the NAB Visa Gift Card have an expiry date?
Yes, you can find the expiry date on the front of the gift card. It can be used for at least 12 months.
What happens to any funds remaining on the card at expiry?
Any remaining funds on expiry of the card are forfeited to NAB.
What happens if my NAB Visa Gift Card is lost or stolen?
NAB Visa Gift Cards should be treated like cash and will not be replaced if lost or stolen.

Is a damaged card/replacement card service provided?
Yes - bring your damaged card into any NAB branch and a replacement card will be supplied. The remaining funds on the damaged card will be transferred to the replacement card. The damaged card/replacement card service is only offered in Australia. A $5.95 fee applies.
Damaged cards cannot be replaced whilst you are overseas.
What if I don't recognise a purchase in my transaction history?
If you don't recognise a transaction or think an incorrect transaction has been made then lodge a Prepaid Cards Disputed Transaction form at any NAB branch. You will need to present your card with the form in order for it to be processed.

Will NAB Visa Gift Card statements be provided?
Statements are not provided as this is not an account. You can obtain your last 5 transactions over the phone or in branch. Fees apply - $0.50 for IVR, Branch or Operator $2.00. Standard call rates apply.
Is the card re-loadable?
No - NAB Visa Gift Card is a prepaid disposable card, it cannot be re-loaded.
Can I withdraw cash from my card?
No - Funds cannot be withdrawn online, at branch, ATMs or when using point of sale.

Can I transfer funds from an account onto the card? Or transfer funds from the card to an account?
No - Funds cannot be transferred either to or from an account to the card.
Can I make a refund?
If the store you made the purchase from allows you to return the item and get a refund the amount can be loaded back onto your card. You cannot receive the refund in cash by the merchant.

Are there any types of transactions where I cannot use my card?
The card cannot be used for non-electronic transactions. There are other special exclusions including: the card cannot be used at automatic fuel dispensers, to purchase gambling or gambling related products or services from a merchant. A number of merchants, including but not limited to companies within Woolworths/Safeway group and Coles group, do not accept any Visa or MasterCard gift cards.
Can I give a tip using the card?
Yes - just ensure there are sufficient funds on the card to cover the tip.
What's the difference between the NAB Visa Gift Card, a NAB Credit Card and a NAB Debit Card?
NAB Visa Gift Card – is a disposable prepaid gift card, where you load cash in advance and give it as a gift. The person uses the card until the balance reaches zero. It’s not a bank account and there’s no paperwork or ID required to purchase the card (except where a credit card is used to purchase and load value). Anyone of any age can purchase and use it, and you don’t have to be a NAB customer.
NAB Credit Card – is a line of credit where you make purchases using the credit card now and pay later.
NAB Debit Card/NAB Visa Debit – a debit card is linked to a bank account so as you purchase, the amount is deducted from your linked account.
