Environmental financing

From 2015 to 2022, NAB provided $70.8 billion in cumulative new environmental financing to help address climate change and support the transition to a low-carbon economy.  In 2023, NAB provided $4.5 billion in new environmental financing.

Transition to net zero

NAB Group has an over-arching goal of net zero emissions by 2050, and we’re working to support our customers as they decarbonise and build climate resilience.

We provide customers with products and financing to help them reduce their emissions.

Environmental finance

In 2022, we met and exceeded our 2025 environmental financing target, having provided a total of $70.8 billion in cumulative new environmental financing since 1 October 2015. In 2023, NAB provided $4.5 billion in new environmental financing, this includes:

  • $2.6 billion in new lending drawn amounts for green, securitisation and specialised lending.
  • $1.9 billion in new activity for underwriting and arranging activities.

Supporting small and medium business

We’re continuing to work on ways to support Australian businesses looking to reduce their emissions and build climate resilience.

NAB offers equipment finance for certain eligible green assets with special pricing concessions for qualifying electric vehicles (subject to eligibility criteria). Find out more about our business finance for green equipment.  

Supporting agribusiness

Australian farmers are actively exploring innovative sustainable on-farm practices to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change. 
 
Our Agri Green Loan is designed to help agribusiness customers invest in eligible on-farm practices and projects that aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and build resilience against climate-related risk. 

Supporting our Corporate and Institutional customers

We provide innovative financial solutions to help Australia’s biggest businesses with their transition. Highlights include:

  • $601 million in new green sustainability-linked lending 2023.
  • Ranked as the number one Australian bank for global renewables transactions.

Supporting individuals, families and the for-purpose sector

We offer an interest rate discount to eligible customers on eligible home loans under our Sustainable Home Discount Offer, and a 5% discount on the cost of Lenders Mortgage Insurance through NAB’s insurance partner QBE for customers purchasing an eligible green property.

Our personal loans can also be used to support energy efficient purchases, including hybrid or electric vehicles and home chargers.

NAB can connect individuals and families with specialist advisers from JBWere, one of Australia and New Zealand’s leading private wealth managers. A key foundational belief of JBWere’s investment philosophy is responsible investing. This includes the identification and analysis of ESG factors, stewardship of capital, impact investing and ethical and values-based investing as part of its approach. NAB Green bonds

We were the first bank in the world to issue a Climate Bonds Standard certified green bond in 2014. The Climate Bonds Standard is a benchmark that helps investors prioritise investments that finance climate change solutions.

Sustainable Finance and Hybrids Equity Capital Markets teams

These teams work with our larger customers to support their transition to net zero emissions,  and help connect borrowers and investors globally with sustainable finance and investment solutions.  Products and services include green, social, sustainability and social impact bonds, green and sustainability linked loans, green deposits, ESG derivatives, and financing solutions to support the provision of affordable, social, student, Indigenous, age-appropriate and disability housing.

Specialised Finance team

Our Specialised Finance team provides project finance and asset finance solutions to support projects and initiatives around the world with the potential to create positive social and environmental impact. We support customers across key industry sectors – specifically larger-scale infrastructure , energy , natural resource projects  and renewable energy.

Agribusiness team

We have a specialist team of bankers that tailor finance and banking solutions for our agribusiness customers –including the first stage post-farmgate processing sector. Our Agribusiness teams operate in every state and territory across Australia.
