Let us know when you're heading off

When you’re wrapped up in the excitement of going overseas, telling us about your plans can be easy to forget. But it’s one of the most important things to tick off your overseas checklist – to make sure your cards stay active while you’re away.

You can let us know about your travel plans in the NAB app,  NAB Internet Banking,  calling us, or visiting us in-branch before you go.

And don’t forget to update your personal details online before you go.

Travel smart with the NAB app

When you’re travelling overseas, you can stay in control and track your spending with the NAB app.

Check out our range of handy travel tools in the NAB app including a foreign exchange calculator that will make your overseas trip a little bit smoother. Setting up this feature is quick and easy.

If you haven’t already, download or update to the latest NAB app today, it's quick and easy.

Using NAB Internet Banking

Another great way to keep track of your accounts and manage your cards when you’re away from home is through NAB Internet Banking.

If you’re not already set up, now is a good time to register. If you've already registered, here are a few things you might want to do in internet banking before taking off.

Safe internet banking

To keep your online accounts safe, try not use public computers to access NAB Internet Banking.  If you do have to use a public computer for your banking, make sure you:

  • check the computer has current anti-virus and firewall protection, as Trojan viruses or spyware can steal passwords and account numbers
  • log out completely when you finish.

Set up direct debits for recurring bills

When you’re travelling, thinking about bills can be a bit of a downer. But if you have regular bills – including credit card repayments – that you usually pay manually, consider setting up direct debits.

This way, they’ll be automatically debited from your account – taking the stress out of remembering to pay them.

Pre-authenticate billers

Simply log in to NAB Internet Banking  to set this up.

BPAY View™

Want to see and pay any bills that come in while you’re away? Register for BPAY View™ and then use NAB Internet Banking to view your bill online. For more information on how it works check out our BPAY View™ page.

Daily transfer limits

Daily limits apply to payments made using NAB Internet Banking or the NAB app.

For answers to your frequently asked questions about daily limits read our simple help guide.

SMS security

With SMS Security,  you'll get extra security protection and additional features when you use the NAB app or NAB Internet Banking. These include:

  • updating your personal details
  • activating your NAB Visa Debit card
  • setting and resetting your NAB Visa Debit card’s PIN
  • resetting your password
  • authorising new billers and payees
  • confirming large transfers if you’ve increased your limit
  • confirming international payments.

If you’re travelling outside of Australia, you'll still receive SMS messages from us if your Australian mobile network provider allows it. You’ll just need to double check with them to see if you’ll be able to receive SMS messages overseas and what charges may apply.

If you plan to use an overseas mobile number while you’re out of Australia or need to deregister for SMS Security, please give us a call on 1300 651 656 or +61 3 8641 9886.
