What is financial planning?

Your life. Your plan.

If you're like many people, you probably spent more time planning your last holiday than you have planning your financial future.

At NAB, our financial planners follow a time-tested, relationship-based approach that’s easy to understand and to fit into your busy life.

See how our six-step process makes financial planning very straightforward.

Understanding your situation

The first appointment is free of charge. It’s about meeting each other and discussing how we can work together. We'll talk about where you are financially and where you’d like to be. We’ll discuss all fees and charges with you here if you choose to proceed further.

Identifying your goals and objectives

Next, we’ll work together to identify your short and long-term financial priorities, needs and goals. These will form the foundation of our initial financial advice and can be revisited as we review your plan and as your life and circumstances change.

Analysing the issues

Together, we’ll take a close look at where you stand financially now and any risks and opportunities that may lie ahead. Our analysis of your situation and future goals will be the basis for any strategies we recommend.

Preparing your financial plan

We’ll prepare a detailed financial plan (also known as a Statement of Advice) outlining the recommended strategies and solutions we’ve designed for you.

Your financial planner will:

  • Take you step-by-step through all recommendations.
  • Answer any questions you have.
  • Clearly explain any information that you need to know, including any fees and commissions related to the recommendations specified in your plan.

If your advisor recommends a specific financial product, you’ll also receive a Product Disclosure Statement, which includes the full product details.

Acting on our advice

Once you’re ready to go ahead, we’ll put your financial plan into action. This may involve setting up any recommended investment and insurance products. When appropriate, your planner will collaborate with other specialist professionals, such as your banker, accountant or solicitor.

Reviewing your plan

We understand your financial plan isn’t a one-off solution. Your circumstances, lifestyle and financial goals will change over time, so it’s important your financial plan stays in step.

Participation in our Ongoing Service Program will ensure your plan is regularly reviewed so that it remains up to date and relevant to your changing lifestyle and goals.
