At NAB we are committed to protecting your right to privacy and protecting your personal information.
NAB was a finalist in the Office of the Privacy Commissioner's Inaugural Privacy Awards 2008, in the large business category. We know that good privacy is good business and we used our microfinance initiatives to highlight a real example of how we adopt great practices in relation to how we manage our customers' personal information
Microfinance is the provision of financial services to low income customers. This program involves sharing customer’s personal and credit information with third parties (such as Good Shepherd) - a practice which requires careful management to ensure we the meet the intentions of the National Privacy Principles and the Credit Reporting requirements under the Privacy Act. This initiative has shown that thoughtful consideration of privacy protocols can bridge the tension between business requirements and the need to protect individuals’ rights. Ultimately this helps us give better service our customers. The extensive consultation and processes we put in place around personal information governance in the context of our microfinance program has paid off. We have had no privacy-related complaints or incidents.
