Bill payments/BPAY View

Which account can I pay bills from?

You are able to pay bills from any of your transaction or credit card accounts*.

*Selected billers do not accept credit card payments. If you select an account that a biller will not accept, NAB Internet Banking will reject the payment.

For periodic and future dated payments, NAB Internet Banking cannot verify whether the account is acceptable to the biller until the due date. You should therefore refer to your bill to confirm that the biller does accept payments from credit cards prior to creating the payment.

What if the biller I want to pay is not on the BPAY® list?

At present, NAB Internet Banking offers the ability to pay registered BPAY® Billers. If your biller does not participate in the scheme, you will not be able to use NAB Internet Banking to make your payment.

Why not ask your biller to enquire about participating in the BPAY® scheme? All the major banks have information about joining this program.

How many days does it take for a payment to reach the biller?

If you make a BPAY payment before the specified cut-off time on a business day, we’ll send the payment details to the biller’s bank on the same day. The biller is required (under BPAY rules) to treat your payment as being received that same day as well.

Payments made after the specified cut-off time will usually be treated as being received by the biller on the next business day. The time that it takes for the biller’s account to actually be credited will depend on the policy and systems of the biller’s bank.

Please refer to the online help function of NAB Internet Banking for more detailed information.

Are there any limits applied to BPAY® billers?

Internet banking customers who are registered for SMS security can perform BPAY payments up to the maximum transaction limit imposed by the biller. Note: The biller can advise the transaction limits they have imposed.

Internet Banking customers who do not have SMS security will have BPAY payments performed to billers that are not NAB authorised included within their daily transfer limit of $2,500. Payments made to NAB authorised billers can still be performed up to the maximum amount imposed by the biller.

NAB is committed to ensuring internet and telephone banking remain safe, secure and convenient methods of banking. Funds transferred to selected billers for payments such as credit cards or TAB accounts can be withdrawn or on forwarded as soon as they reach the account often making them a target for fraudulent activity. For customers who are not registered for SMS security, the inclusion of payments to non NAB authorised billers within the daily transfer limit aims to minimise the risk of fraudulent activity and safeguard your money while you are using internet and telephone banking.

Customers can register for SMS Security via either of the following methods:

  • You can log into NAB Internet Banking and refer to the Settings/Mailbox menu and select Security & password to register if your updated mobile number is registered with us
  • Call the Internet Banking Support Team on 1300 651 656 if calling from Australia or +613 8641 9886 if calling from overseas
  • Refer to any NAB branch.

Is there a difference between a BPAY biller and a BPAY View biller?

Yes. Not all BPAY® billers offer the BPAY View functionality. If a biller provides this service, they will usually state it on their paper bill. Visit BPAY's website to see the full list of current BPAY ViewTM billers.

Can you view the detailed bill from a BPAY View biller in internet banking?

No. Internet banking only displays a summary of the bill with information on the due date, amount due, reference etc. To view the actual details of a bill, a link is provided on the biller name located on the BPAY View bills screen. The biller's web site will open in a new window and display the bill details, usually as you see it in your paper bill.

Does Telstra® need a separate registration to access their detailed bill?

Yes, Telstra® requires you to register with them separately to access your bill pages from their web site. If you have not done this earlier, please follow their registration instructions when you first go to their web page.
