Nice one! You got an interview! Now’s your time to shine. Here are a few little tips on how to go from candidate to employee.
WHAT TO WEAR?
You should “dress for the job you want”. But cruising in in an Hawaiian shirt and sunnies isn’t (usually) a great call. Take the workplace’s general day-to-day and aim a little nicer – like adding a tie instead of going open-shirt. Or add a sleek pocket square or tie clip if they dress nice. Lay out everything the night before so you won’t have to worry about it in the morning.
HOW TO ACT?
Stand up straight, deep breaths - you’ve got this. Give plenty of eye contact and actually listen. Don’t just think about what you’re going to say next. Move slowly and confidently.
Just take your time. You’d be very surprised how much two deep breaths and a smile will do to your confidence.
HOW TO HANDLE QUESTIONS?
Have you ever seen James Bond ramble? Exactly. Think about each question before you respond and speak slowly and clearly – to avoid the dreaded word-salad. And come prepared with questions. Nothing’s more awkward than ending a meeting on a lul – after all, you’re asking for a second interview.
Now you're all set to nail that interview. Good luck!
HOW TO DO A PROPER HANDSHAKE
Two shakes? Three? Or should you just go for four?
Give your new employer the handshake of an adult. The kind of handshake that says “I already know my super details.” (They’re in my NAB internet banking, because I’m with MLC MasterKey Super Fundamentals). But they don’t need to know that. Here’s how:
- Grip: Firm. Not crushing, not limp, but just right.
- Give eye contact and smile. You’re not a robot.
- Clean, dry hands. No wet fish shakes on our watch.
- Don’t linger. Two quick shakes and release.
- No double-handers, Romeo. One and done.
YOUR JOB, YOUR SUPER
Let’s face it. We all completely forget about our super until we have to give our details to a new employer. When you start a new job, you give your employer your bank details for your pay, so why not give them your super details?
That’s why, when you apply for MLC MasterKey Super Fundamentals, your super details will be right next to your NAB accounts in NAB internet banking. So, all your money’s in one spot, making it easier to keep track of.
