Name: Semefa Sefe
Your role: Senior Analyst, Regulatory Investigations Office
Region: Sydney, New South Wales
What’s your story?
I moved to Australia from Botswana 10 years ago and I’ve been at the National Australia Bank for just over two years. My background is in accounting and finance. I’m actually a very shy and reserved person – that is until you get me going about a topic I’m passionate about…and there are many!
I’ve worked on responses to regulatory investigations for the last two years, which is challenging but extremely rewarding. We work to deliver great outcomes for our customers, building their respect and trust in us.
How have you made a difference?
I am passionate about diversity and inclusion and heavily involved in NAB’s African Australian Inclusion Program (AAIP). I do a lot of mentoring, coaching and also chair the NSW AAIP Committee. Once when engaging a vendor to supply catering to an AAIP event, I provided some background on the Program, to which they exclaimed, “Wow, you guys are really more than money”.
I’m pretty zealous about solution design and continuous improvement in my day job. This year, I had a great opportunity to create new solutions, techniques and processes that underpin a key framework of our super trustee that helps us better support our customers.
What are you passionate about?
What am I not passionate about!? In addition to diversity and inclusion, I believe economic empowerment and financial literacy are extremely important in today’s world. As an avid public speaker, I have given talks on financial literacy, particularly through the aegis.
After suffering a personal loss, mental health awareness has become extremely important to me. However my main passion is learning. I believe learning is a lifelong journey and I am never satisfied if I’m not learning – my goal is to learn at least one new thing every day.
