Securing Australia Together

Hosted by the National Cyber Security Coordinator, our Chief Security Officer, Sandro Bucchianeri, joined his peers from ANZ, CBA and Westpac to demonstrate how the banks collaborate on cybersecurity behind the scenes regularly. Their message is simple: collaboration multiplies our impact.

Let’s keep getting the basics right: strong passphrases, software updates, and multi-factor authentication.

Thanks to everyone who joined. A recording is available if you would like to watch.

Australian Cyber Security Centre’s Awareness Month

NAB is a proud supporter of the Australian Cyber Security Centre’s (ACSC) Cyber Security Awareness Month. This is an annual reminder to take action to safeguard yourself online.

This year’s theme is “Building our Cyber Safe Culture” to help you identify risks to your online safety.

A cyber-attack is reported every 6 minutes in Australia . We’re all doing more online than ever before. Here are NAB’s top tips for staying safe online:

1. Use a unique and strong passphrase on every account

Use strong, complex passwords and a password manager tool. Create a different password for each account and keep them to yourself. Passphrases, which are a combination of multiple random words containing upper and lower case letters, numbers and special characters, are much harder to guess. You can save them in a password manager tool so you don’t have to remember them, too! Learn more about good password hygiene.

2. Always set up multi-factor authentication (MFA)

Multi-factor Authentication (MFA), also known as two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security on your online accounts and help prevent unauthorised access. Learn how to turn on MFA.

3. Update software regularly

Using out of date software and operating systems can leave your devices vulnerable. Ensure you always have the latest anti-virus software and security patches installed. Turn on automatic updates so you never miss the latest software updates.

4. Back up your data regularly

Your data is valuable, so make regular back-ups of your data, and store them somewhere safe. Test your back-ups regularly to ensure they’ll work if you need them.
