FAQs

1. How do I start using NAB for Amazon Alexa?

Once you have set up your Amazon Echo, open the Alexa app and search for NAB, or visit the Alexa Skill Store. Click the Enable skill button. You’ll then be prompted to link your NAB account to your Alexa account.

To do this, first enter your NAB ID (it's the 8-10 digit number printed on the back of your NAB card - just above the magnetic strip). You’ll then have to log in to the NAB app on your mobile. Approve access to Alexa, accept the terms and conditions and then set a four digit code which you’ll need when using NAB Skill for Amazon Alexa.

Now, you’re ready to go! On your Alexa device, say "Alexa, open NAB".

It’s important that your NAB for Amazon Alexa four digit code is different from your credit and debit card PINs, telephone banking PIN and NAB app passcode. This ensures that if someone overhears you say the code to Alexa they can’t, for example, access your bank accounts if they gain possession of your cards.

2. What accounts can I access through NAB for Amazon Alexa?

Most of the accounts you can access on the NAB App can also be accessed through Alexa – transaction and savings accounts, home and personal loans and credit cards.

Other accounts such as term deposits, portfolio facilities and traveller cards are not currently accessible.

If you have hidden an account in NAB Internet Banking or the NAB app, it will not be accessible through Alexa.

3. A note about credit cards and loans

To find out how much you have available to spend on your credit card, home loan or personal loan (if you have a redraw facility on your loan) ask Alexa for your balance:

  • Alexa, ask NAB. What’s my home loan balance?
  • Alexa, ask NAB. What’s my credit card balance?; or
  • Alexa, ask NAB. How much can I spend on my credit card?

To find out how much you owe on your credit card, home loan or personal loan say:

  • Alexa, ask NAB. How much do I owe on my credit card?
  • Alexa, ask NAB. How much do I owe on my personal loan?

4. How can I keep my accounts secure when using Amazon Alexa?

When you register you’ll set up a four digit code which you must say when using NAB for Amazon Alexa. If someone overhears this code, using your Alexa device they’ll be able to hear your account balance, recent deposits and amount owing on your loans and credit cards.

Money can't be transferred out of your accounts using NAB for Amazon Alexa.

It’s important that your four digit code is different from your credit and debit card PINs, your telephone banking PIN and the NAB app passcode. This ensures that if someone overhears you say the code to Alexa they can’t, for example, access your bank accounts if they happen to gain possession of your cards.

Of course, someone nearby may be able to overhear what you say to Alexa and what Alexa says to you including your account balances and recent transactions.

If you don’t use NAB for Amazon Alexa more than 90 days your accounts will be unlinked from Alexa and you’ll need to re-register. To do this, go to the Alexa App, find the NAB skill then tap the Disable skill button. Now tap the Enable skill button and go through the steps. You’ll need to have the NAB app handy to complete the process.

5. What if I forget my code / how do I change my code?

Now tap the Enable skill button and go through the steps of re-accepting the terms and conditions and setting a new code. You’ll need to have the NAB App handy to complete the process.

6. How do I stop using NAB for Amazon Alexa?

If you no longer want to use NAB for Amazon Alexa simply log into your Alexa App, find the NAB Skill and tap the Disable skill button.

If you’re unable to do this, you can disconnect your NAB accounts from Alexa by logging into the NAB app then from the Menu select Apps and Websites. Select The NAB Skill on Amazon Alexa and then tap the Remove Access button.
