Frequently asked questions

If I purchase NAB Car Insurance, who is my insurer?

Allianz Australia Insurance Limited (ABN 15 000 122 850 AFSL 234708) (Allianz) is the insurer and issuer of this insurance. Allianz has entered into a distribution arrangement with National Australia Bank Limited (ABN 12 004 044 937) (NAB). Under this arrangement, NAB is authorised to arrange for the issue of this insurance by Allianz as its agent, not yours. All other services provided by NAB in relation to this insurance are not provided on behalf of Allianz. This means, if you purchase NAB Car Insurance, and need to make a claim, Allianz are there for you – helping you get back on track again as soon as possible.

My child is under 25 and has a probationary licence. They drive my car, but aren’t listed as a driver on my insurance policy. Will I have to pay an excess if they have an accident?

If your child was not listed on your policy and had an accident covered by your policy, you may have to pay an ‘Age excess’, in addition to the ’Basic Excess’.

My child is a learner driver and I want to teach them to drive in the car insured with Allianz. Do I need to inform you?

No. Learner drivers are automatically covered provided the instructing driver meets the policy criteria as set out in your schedule and PDS.

I have bought a new accessory for my vehicle and I want it covered if it gets stolen. What should I do?

To have a non-standard accessory covered under your car insurance policy you need to let Allianz know the details and value of the accessory. You need to do this for all non-standard accessories (those not fitted by the car manufacturer) to ensure you are covered in the event of a car insurance claim. Remember to also keep a record of your purchases.

Can a family member enquire or make changes to my car insurance policy?

Unless they are authorised on your car insurance policy, we are unable to provide any information nor can they action any requests on your behalf. Please contact our staff on 13 29 28 to discuss what is involved in providing them access to your car insurance policy.

How to make a claim

In order to be sure that you are covered, you should always contact us for confirmation before you incur expenses you wish to claim. If you do not, we will still pay for expenses incurred up to the amount we would have authorised had you asked us first.

Important Information

1We will extend your rental car or daily travel allowance period to the extent that we caused or contributed to the delay in repairing your vehicle.

2 You have the right to choose your own repairer. Allianz can also assist you in selecting a suitable repairer to repair the damage to your vehicle. Allianz may require a second quotation from a repairer chosen by Allianz. In certain circumstances we may agree with you to use a different repairer than the one that you selected or pay you the reasonable repair costs. We will act reasonably in doing so.

3 The online discount applies to new comprehensive Motor Insurance policies only. Any online discounts offered are applied to our standard rates (excluding optional covers) and are for the first year’s premium only (unless stated otherwise). Promotional or other discounts may apply from time to time for customers who apply for insurance via other methods.

4 Safe Driver Discount applies to comprehensive NAB Car Insurance policies only. Any discount entitlement is determined by the insurance history and driving history of all drivers on the policy and the number of claims made by them. If eligible, the maximum Safe Driver Discount that may be applied on new policies is 10%.

5 Reduce your premium by listing your drivers. If you choose to reduce your premium by naming drivers on your policy, an unnamed driver will incur a $2,500 excess (this replaces the basic and all other excesses where applicable).

6 Minimum premiums may apply. Any discounts/entitlements may be subject to rounding and only apply to the extent any minimum premium is not reached. If you are eligible for more than one, we also apply each of them in a predetermined order to the premium (excluding taxes and government charges) as reduced by any prior applied discounts/entitlements. Discounts may not be applied to the premium for optional covers.
