As the economy has become increasingly digitised, the way our customers are banking with us has also continued to evolve. Today, 94 per cent of customer interactions occur through digital channels and 48 per cent of our home loan appointments are by video.

To help us continue to deliver great experiences for customers, NAB invests significantly in its technology foundations. This allows NAB to deliver faster, better and more personalised experiences to customers.

If you’re a natural innovator and love a challenge we're looking for you. We want the best people to help us deliver amazing digital experiences. To find out more, check out our jobs page.

The latest technology we're focused on

Building a world-class delivery engine is at the heart of our technology transformation. To deliver our ambitious goals we know it takes great people who are empowered and supported to do great things. That’s why we’re proud to employ thousands of technology specialists across cyber security, data & AI, cloud engineering and so much more.

Together with our people, we're building world-class in-house technology capability and creating the culture that ensures our engineers are valued for doing what they love.

Flexible architecture

We need to deliver more and deliver it faster to keep pace with ever evolving customer needs and expectations. We’re embracing the microservices architecture movement to build the foundations which allow us to rapidly scale, grow our businesses, and deliver value for our people and customers.

Taking a platform-based approach, we're using cloud native technology to build, run, maintain and support our ecosystem of technology assets.

In 2018, we were the first bank in Australia to launch a cloud-first strategy and today we’re proud to employ one of the highest numbers of NAB trained and enabled cloud engineers in the southern hemisphere.

For over a decade we've been an industry leader in cloud capability and now we’re supercharging it. Alongside our cloud partners AWS and Microsoft, we’re pushing further with our ambitions to have 80 percent of our apps on cloud in 2023.

Data and AI

We recognise the potential of how we can use data and artificial intelligence (AI) to revolutionise digital experiences. Strengthening and broadening our capability in AI and machine learning at scale is fast becoming the key enabler for us to deliver an effortless and personalised experience for our customers and colleagues.

With a dedicated Data, Digital & Analytics function, we’re leveraging exciting new technologies, and industry-wide initiatives like Open Banking, to create safe and secure digital experiences.

World class technical development

The NAB Cloud Guild is our leading training program to build and grow the technical capabilities of our people. The Guild is available to all NAB colleagues and focuses on upskilling in the areas of architecture, security, development, operations, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and big data. Just three years on and we’ve trained over 7,000 colleagues in cloud technology and delivered more than 2,700 industry recognised cloud certifications.

Graduates of the Guild can become certified cloud practitioners and can continue their training to become an associate developer, associate systems operator or an associate architect in AWS or Azure technologies. We also run many other Guilds with a Data and Analytics focus.

We are focused on developing a community that shares ideas and promotes discussions in these forums. At NAB we pride ourselves as having a learning and development culture which is part of our DNA.

Cyber Security

In the increasingly digital world, ensuring our customers and colleagues are safe online is our priority.

At NAB, we have real time detection strategies and technology in place to identify suspicious activity and protect NAB Group and customer information, including partnering with companies like BugCrowd.

We have hundreds of people working as part of our in-house cyber security capability, monitoring the threat landscape and security technology trends.

We also have many talent pipeline initiatives to help us both attract and develop people, including initiatives with Grok Academy, National Computer Science School and Australian Women in Security Network amongst others.

One of Australia’s largest tech intern programs

An internship at NAB is the perfect place to gain the industry experience and exposure you need for a career in technology. Whether you’re still studying or a past graduate who’s looking for a career change, the internship is a 6-12 month full time or part time paid program. The program commences in January and July, in line with university semesters.

You’ll discover what it’s like to learn and work in information technology at one of Australia’s largest financial institutions. During your internship you’ll be mentored and supported in your learning and development, all while doing real work in one of our innovative technology teams.

You’ll have the opportunity to become cloud certified, join our inhouse hackathons and network with senior leaders across the business. If you’re a current student, you can also earn credit towards your degree.
