For over 160 years, we’ve been helping our customers with their money. Today, we have more than 30,000 people serving nine million customers at more than 900 locations in Australia, New Zealand and around the world.

The latest technology we're focused on


Building a world-class delivery engine is at the heart of our technology transformation. To deliver our ambitious goals we know it takes great people who are empowered and supported to do great things. To achieve this, we're building world-class in-house technology capability and creating the culture that ensures our engineers are valued for doing what they love.

Flexible architecture

We need to be able to deliver more and deliver it faster to keep pace with ever evolving customer needs and expectations. We're modelling what good looks like on technology companies we admire most. We’re embracing the microservices architecture movement to build the foundations which will enable us to rapidly scale, deliver value, and grow our businesses.

Taking a platform-based approach, we're leveraging cloud native technology to build, run, maintain and support our ecosystem of technology assets. Moving to this world creates a lot of exciting opportunities across architecture, development, security, quality engineering, deployment automation, monitoring and logging.


Since 2013, we've been innovating and building our cloud capability, and now we’re supercharging it. Cloud computing is quickly becoming a dominant technology platform and our people need to have the relevant skills to deliver for our customers.

In 2018, we kicked off our cloud-first multi-cloud strategy and launched the NAB Cloud Guild as our leading training program to build and grow the capability of our people. The NAB Cloud Guild is openly available to all employees and focuses on architecture, security, developers, operations and big data. Almost 1,000 team members are now industry certified in cloud technology. Graduates of the guild can become certified cloud practitioners and can opt to continue training to become an associate developer, an associate systems operator or an associate architect.

In July 2020, we announced a five-year multi-cloud partnership with Microsoft to boost resilience, speed and innovation. To bolster our internal engineering capability, Microsoft are training 5,000 of our team members to continue the development of our people. By the end of 2023, we expect to have 80 percent of our apps on cloud.


We recognise the awe-inspiring potential of how we can use data to revolutionise experiences. Strengthening and broadening our capability in artificial intelligence and machine learning at scale is the key enabler for us to deliver highly personalised experiences for our customers.

We're also excited for the future in the cloud. To build the bank of the future we're strategically moving away from large pieces of kit in a data centre. The NAB Discovery Cloud (NDC) is our first leap to the new world.
