He turned a concrete moonscape into a blooming native garden
Name: Thomas Dobson
Your role: Head of Media & Partnerships
Where: Docklands, Victoria
What’s your story?
I am originally from Canberra. I studied overseas a lot in my uni years before a career in consulting and business school. I joined NAB around the same time as a number of friends and colleagues. It felt like an exodus from consulting – so I can honestly say I am here for the great people.
How have you made a difference?
I loved being in the NAB Marketing team when we broke up with the other banks and also when we backed Australian business during the GFC. Both of these moments in time were more than just campaigns because the whole organisation lived the messaging every day with customers and in our communities. More recently our partnership with the AFL’s fantastic new women’s competition has been another chance to participate in a real movement. Every AFLW match had players celebrating their first goals and fulfilling dreams.
What are you passionate about?
I have been on the board of CERES (an environment park, incubator and Melbourne institution) for a long time because I am passionate about sustainability and education. I believe everyone at NAB has skills that the not-for-profit sector needs and there are so many opportunities out there for us to be involved in. I love the outdoors and I will cycle or run anywhere I can - even if I am often overly ambitious. I’ve spent years attempting to run a sub 3 hour marathon and have been tantalisingly close. I think it is my impossible dream but it’s great fun trying.
