We understand that domestic and family violence is a very complex and personal issue, and it takes a lot for someone to disclose their situation. We want to support you through this difficult experience.

Protecting your privacy

We’ll treat information that you give us about your situation confidentially, but any information about a joint loan (such as balance and payments that you make) will be available to the co-borrower.

Help with your banking

There are many types of domestic and family violence. They could include physical violence as well as emotional abuse and financial abuses. Financial abuse is a form of domestic and family violence where the abuser uses money or finances to control the other person. We want to support you through this difficult experience by helping with your banking.

We can help by:

  • setting up a transaction account for you that is not listed on Internet Banking
  • changing your passwords and PINs
  • changing addresses to keep your location confidential
  • breaks from repayments or reduced payments for fixed periods
  • stopping access to redraw on loans
  • updating joint accounts so that both people need to sign on any changes (known as 'both to sign')
  • cancelling secondary credit cards
  • offering financial and personal counselling

Assistance for financial hardship

We can help by providing financial hardship assistance if you’re finding it difficult to keep up with your repayments because you are experiencing domestic and family violence or financial abuse.

As part of this assistance, if you’re finding things tough financially and unable to leave a violent home, we may be able to provide you with assistance to leave and keep yourself safe.

In partnership with the community organisation Uniting CareRing (part of the Uniting network), the assistance can include working with a family violence worker, safety planning and financial assistance towards services to assist you in leaving.

Helping our employees

Since 2013, employees experiencing domestic and family violence have been supported through special paid leave, welfare checks, counselling and emergency financial assistance via our Domestic and Family Violence support policy.
