  • Passport (Australian or foreign)
  • Australian driver's licence
  • Birth certificate

Joint account information

To apply for a joint account, please visit our joint accounts page for important details, and make sure you read through the following information before applying.

  • Joint accounts are designed for people who want to manage shared everyday expenses or savings together. By applying online, both applicants receive full access and agree that either person can operate the account on their own, including making deposits and withdrawals. If you want payments to require approval from both holders, you’ll need to apply in branch.

  • Age requirements
You can apply online when both applicants are 18 years or over. If you are under 18, please visit a branch.

    How to apply online
A joint account means both of you need to complete the application. We’ll only open the account once both parts are finished and approved. If either applicant is new to NAB, you’ll need to complete the online application form together. If you both already bank with NAB, one person starts the application and invites the other by email and mobile number. Please visit our joint accounts page for specific information about how to apply.

    Before you start:

    • Allow time to complete the application in one go, it can’t be saved
    • Each applicant must complete their part in a single session
    • Invited applicants have up to 7 days to finish before the application expires
    • Read things to consider before applying to understand what add on products may be available as part of your application.

    Government concession card holders
If both applicants already bank with NAB and either of you have a government concession card, you will need to apply in branch or contact us to apply your overdraw preferences to your joint account. If either applicant if new to NAB, you can choose your overdraw settings in the online joint account form.

    • Applications for joint accounts can only be made via the website or in person, not via the NAB app or NAB Internet Banking.

  • If you’re feeling unsure about a joint account, it’s ok to pause. Feeling pressured to combine money can be a sign of financial abuse.
