Closing your credit card account
Things to consider before you close your account
If you have a rewards card, any reward points not credited when you close the card will be forfeited (including points earned in the current statement period). NAB Rewards points won’t be affected, but you need to redeem these within 60 days of closure.
Once we’ve closed the account, you’ll still be able to see it in NAB Internet Banking for 3 to 6 months. This is so you can still access your transaction and payment history, should you need to.
To close your credit card
Send us a secure message via NAB Internet Banking. Just login, go to ‘Setting/Mailbox’ and click on ‘Create secure message’. Follow the prompts to select ‘credit card’ and ‘card closure’ as reasons for the contact. Then you’ll be able to select the account you wish to close.
Alternatively, call us on 13 22 65 from 8am – 5.45pm Mon-Fri (AEST/AEDT) or +61 3 8641 9083 if you’re overseas.
What you’ll need to do after we’ve closed the account
1. Pay off the card completely. This includes interest, fees and charged. You’ll continue to receive a monthly statement until the balance is fully paid off.
2. Check for any direct debits you might have set up on the card (and additional card), and get in touch with the merchants to change your details. Destroy your card (and any additional card) by cutting through the chip, magnetic strip and security code.
