Real-time transfers

A real-time transfer updates every 60 seconds based on the domestic and foreign currency value, every 60 seconds.

When you’re creating a real-time transfer in NAB internet banking, you’ll see that the first page of your transfer will still show you the indicative rate.

If you're doing an International transfer from 7.30am to Midnight, Monday to Friday you'll usually see the real time rate on the final page before you submit your transfer.

How to accept the real time rate

You'll have 60 seconds to accept the rate offered before it expires. Click Accept rate and transfer. (If the rate expires, just click the Refresh exchange rate button.)

When real time rates aren't available

Real time rates aren't available:

  • outside of Monday 7:30am to Friday midnight AEST
  • on weekends or public holidays.

Real time rates also aren't available for future-dated or periodic transfers because we use the exchange rate available on that day.

Important: The below cut off times are for international payments made to trusted beneficiaries. Payments made to beneficiaries for the first time may be delayed being sent to the overseas bank until the next business day.

Receiving a discount for your international funds transfer fee

We sometimes run special campaigns where payments made to certain beneficiary bank countries, in certain currencies or over a certain amount will result in a discounted fee being charged.

You'll always be advised at the time of creating a payment if any discounts apply and the reason why they are being applied.

Fee being charged for a periodic or future dated transfer

When you create a periodic payment the fee will display as the standard fee, should there be a discounted fee available at the time the payment is processed, you'll always be charged the lowest fee.

For future dated payments, you'll be advised a fee at the time you create the payment. However, the fee charged at the time the payment is processed will be the lowest fee available on that day.

Disputing an online International funds transfer

To trace, cancel or amend an online International funds transfer, you need to send a secure message through NAB Internet Banking with the full details of the disputed transaction. We'll receive your message and commence the dispute resolution process.

To read more on disputed transaction by viewing this page on receiving money from overseas or this page on payment transfers.

NAB’s partner bank network

NAB uses a network of international correspondent banks to transfer money overseas. Customer funds will travel through banking partners to reach the payment’s end destination.  This happens as any single bank does not have direct relationships with the other 10,000+ banks in the world - we use trusted partners to deliver international payment transfers.

Viewing international payment status in our self-service banking options

Payments made from NAB accounts that are viewable on NAB Connect, Internet Banking and NAB app options are trackable.

Unexpected fees on mobile and internet banking international payments

We use trusted partner banks to send international payments. For Mobile and Internet Banking transfers, even though we request partners do not deduct any additional fees, it may happen outside of our control. In this case, we will reimburse additional fees deducted by a partner bank.
