In Australia, over 2.4 million people aged 18 and over are experiencing severe or high financial stress while 69.5% of Australian adults are facing some level of financial stress or vulnerability. As a financial institution, it’s our role to help our customers, people and community and help improve their financial inclusion and resilience.

For over a decade, we've partnered with Good Shepherd Microfinance to provide financial products and services to those excluded from mainstream finance. We do this in a number of ways:

  • We’ve continued to grow our microfinance offering in partnership with Good Shepherd Microfinance; focusing on providing more Australians and New Zealanders access to financial products and services.
  • Our world leading hardship assistance team, NAB Assist, continues to help our customers experiencing financial hardship improve their situation and give them the financial counselling and support as needed.
  • We’ve piloted a ‘Hardship Bond’ to assist customers having difficulty making repayments through incentivising debt reduction.
  • We continue to invest in research and partnerships to better understand root causes of financial hardship and how to best help people.
