Name: Belinda Zhao
Your role: Head of Beijing Branch
Region: Beijing, China
What’s your story?
I have over 23 years’ experience working in banking. I’ve previously worked in two Chinese banks, one Singapore bank and one Dutch bank. NAB is the fifth financial institution I’ve worked for and I’m very happy to be here.
Although I’ve been a General Manager at foreign banks for over a decade, NAB still took me out of my comfort zone in my role as the Head of Beijing Branch. I am impressed by NAB’s culture and values. At NAB, I have realised that I should not race through life so fast that I forget not only where I’ve been, but importantly where I am going.
How have you made a difference?
We are a small team of eight dedicated women in the Beijing branch. I believe that customers’ trust can be like glass, and if we don’t manage this properly it can be irrevocably damaged or even shattered.
I have a 14 year daughter who I am very proud of. One day she asked me how I became a successful ‘office lady’. My answer to her was, “Pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work” (Aristotle).
I believe everybody has their challenges but we can overcome anything if we love something enough. We love our job, so every day we make changes to our workflow, our processes and to our mindset, no matter how small, so we can progress in our work and in our broader lives.
What are you passionate about?
I am learning ‘Yi Jing’ in my spare time, a traditional Chinese culture. Feng Shui is part of Yi Jing and contains ancient cosmological information. Yi Jing has been used and relied on by many Chinese to help decision making and predicting the future for nearly 5,000 years.
