Meet Brett

Name: Brett Dobeson

Your role: Head Of Market Risk Oversight

Region: Sydney, New South Wales

What’s your story?

I joined the Market Risk team at NAB in late 2007 just before the onset of the Global Financial Crisis (GFC). Working in risk during the GFC and the extreme market volatility was an invaluable experience both professionally and personally.

I have a Masters of Applied Finance from Macquarie University. I have also worked with CPA for a number of years as the co-author of their Financial Risk Management Program. My work with CPA has provided an opportunity to give back and help candidates develop the knowledge and skills to enable them to deliver value for their organisation.

I was lucky enough to be introduced to my wife by her sister who was a NAB colleague at the time.

How have you made a difference?

As a risk professional supporting NAB’s Markets business, my role is to ensure NAB is kept safe for our shareholders, customers and employees. The key to managing risk is to ensure NAB takes the right risk, with the right controls, for the right return. One of the most pleasing aspects of working at NAB is that the market risk team is regarded as a trusted adviser that delivers real value to the business.

What are you passionate about?

For me, it is all about my family, I have two kids aged three and five. Also, as a recent NAB Honouree, I’m passionate about making a meaningful contribution to mentoring and helping to inspire and develop NAB’s future leaders.
