Name: Cameron Wilkie

What’s your story?

I am a fourth generation Australian, and proudly part of a family with a background in cattle farming. I was born and raised in Brisbane and have only recently returned to Australia after being abroad for 20 years. Overseas I spent time working across three different continents, eventually settling down in Ireland for around 15 years. Because of this experience, my own family is made up of three different nationalities; my wife is South African, our two sons are Irish with an Aussie Dad! It can be very confusing when we go through immigration!

I joined NAB two years ago and was lucky enough to land a fantastic role on the Gold Coast, where I am fortunate enough to work with great people every day.

How have you made a difference?

I get a real buzz from working with people to help fulfil their potential and in turn, mine. A big part of making our Business Banking Centre a successful and great place to work is getting everyone involved in developing and executing our local business strategy. There is also a fierce dedication to coaching and development. This is critical in making sure each and every person within our team can achieve the very best for themselves and their customers.

One of the things I love most about working at NAB is how passionate our people are about their customers. What we have done well here in Southport is develop a culture of working really hard for our customers, but taking time out together to have fun too. We are a great team.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about being part of something bigger than me, which is why I love working in a team environment. I am also very passionate about giving back to the community and I regularly act as a mentor for charity called Men of Business than supports marginalised teenagers to stay in school.

Outside of work (and the usual passion for family and friends etc.), I love being near the water. If I am not surfing, I want to be swimming, boating or wakeboarding – anytime I am in the water I am happy.

I also love to travel and experience difficult cultures. I’ve been fortunate enough to travel widely for a long time, but it is good to be home too!
