Meet Kawashi

Name: Kawashi Othow

Your role: Team Member, Corporate Responsibility

Region: Docklands, Victoria

What’s your story?

My family and I migrated to Australia in the late 1990s and I’ve well and truly grown up the ‘Aussie way’.

I’m currently studying Accounting at university but I am most interested in Corporate Responsibility. It is great to come to work every day knowing that every initiative my team brings to life is to help our customers and our employees. It gives me a genuine sense of purpose and pride.

At NAB, through their African-Australian Inclusion Program (AAIP), I have been able to gain experience in financial services. The overwhelming success of this program over the years speaks to NAB’s commitment to diversity in the workplace and confirms that NAB lives and breathes its values.

How has NAB made a difference?

I am an advocate (and participant) of NAB’s volunteer program. I believe that the hours we spend helping a community organisation makes a major difference, even if it allows the organisation to help one more person.

NAB’s many initiatives and programs are making a difference in people’s lives every day. Once my placement in the AAIP is complete, I fully intend on becoming a member of the AAIP committee (and many more) to help grow the program so others can reach their goals and have the opportunity given to me.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about diversity and equality in society and in the workplace. As someone who has been given an amazing opportunity to learn and succeed at NAB, it is now my personal mission to continue the cycle and constantly break barriers built by a lack of knowledge and an unwillingness to learn.
